Internal – Western Smelters

In this role you will be responsible for but not limited to:

Overseeing all Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) management requirements specific to the Rustenburg Smelter during care and maintenance phase.

Ensuring robust compliance with South African HSEQ legislation (OHSA, MHS Act, NEMA) and the Glencore HSEC standards and protocols.

Implementing, maintaining, and continuously improving HSEQ management systems and site risk controls.

Leading incident investigation, root cause analysis, hazard identification, job safety analysis, and HSEQ audits for care and maintenance activities.

Managing occupational health, hygiene, and exposure monitoring programs (e.g., dust, noise, gases, heat), ensuring the health and safety of all personnel and contractors onsite.

Leading contractor and service provider compliance management relating to HSEQ obligations.

Coordinating site environmental, emergency response, and sustainability programs in line with ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 9001 standards.

Engaging with internal departments, shared services, and third-party bodies regarding audits, reporting, and compliance monitoring.

Compiling and presenting accurate HSEQ reports and performance statistics, analysing data and identifying trends for continuous improvement.

Driving operational discipline and championing a strong safety culture in alignment with Glencore SafeWork 2.0 protocols.

Participating in emergency preparedness and response processes, including training, drills, and crisis management.

Managing and mentoring a team of HSEQ professionals, promoting competency development and best practices across the site.

About you:

Degree/Diploma in Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ), Engineering, Chemical, Metallurgical or equivalent.

In-depth knowledge of ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 9001 standards and South African HSEQ legislation.

Min 3 years' experience in HSEQ management within mining, smelting or heavy industry, including at least 3–5 years in a supervisory position.

Strong track record in incident investigation, auditing, and compliance.

Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, coaching, and stakeholder management skills.

Proficient in MS Office Suite and digital HSEQ management systems (ISO systems, SAP EHS, or equivalent).

Excellent analytical, reporting, communication, and change management skills.

High levels of integrity, accountability, and adaptability, with the ability to work effectively under pressure in a hazardous industrial environment.
